NEW YORK GIANTS PLAYER QUOTES
Post Game vs. Baltimore - November 16, 2008
Antonio Pierce on today’s game:
Anytime when you have an opponent coming into your house and all they are talking about is their defense – and not your own – you want to come out here and prove to yourself that your defense is pretty good, too. It is a hell of a team over there and they are very physical. I thought our guys did a great job of stepping up and meeting the challenge.
(On Aaron Ross’s interception): We really needed one of those at that point in the game. I’m glad he picked it off and went for six. And the other one he got, he played man coverage and he cut underneath the route. Those were probably the two biggest plays of the game. Those were momentum changing plays.
Aaron Ross on interception return:
It was a great momentum change. Corey Webster did a great job of hitting the receiver and getting the ball out. I had a chance to get my hands on the ball and had a chance to beat Flacco to the corner. It was a great defensive call; I just happened to be in a great position. Baltimore has a great defense but I thought the whole focus this week was on our defense. We know the Ravens get a lot of love on the defensive side and we are sort of under the radar a little bit. We had to come out and try to match their intensity. I feel we did a great job in doing that.
David Diehl on our defense today:
Our defense played tremendous today. There were a couple of drives where they were out there for a long time. But you talk about defense bending but not breaking and our defense sure did that today. They helped on blocking field goals and creating turnovers and getting us the ball back. Offensively we do whatever we can to put points on the board and continue to convert on third downs. More importantly we know our style of defense. If we stay on the field and keep them fresh, they are going to wreak havoc.
Fred Robbins on field goal block in today’s game:
We have been getting close all year. And today we got a good push. I was able to get my hands up and make a play. The ball actually hit my helmet. Chase Blackburn gave me a good push, which gave us good penetration. It was a huge momentum swing. It gave us great field position and our offense was able to capitalize on it. We know we have a good defense over here. We had to outmatch their intensity. We knew they were going to come in and give us everything they had. We proved that we could play some defense over here, too. They got a few big plays on us but we were able to overcome that and we were able to make some big plays ourselves. Aaron Ross came up with a tremendous play.
Darcy Johnson on touchdown reception:
The play was like an ‘all cross.’ I had to block for one count. I just stayed close to the line and came out the back side. I was the second read on the play. He was looking at Madison first and then he came back to me. Coach Gilbride called it up and said that I was going to be wide open on the other side of the end zone, so just catch the ball. I’m glad they had the faith in me to run the play and give me an opportunity to make a play. Their defense is real tough. They haven’t had a 100-yard rusher in, I think, (28) games. Today we came in and had 200 some yards rushing, so that feels great.
Justin Tuck on the offensive line:
I think we have the best offensive line in the NFL. They showed that today by the way they protected Eli and the way we ran the football. Our offensive first drive was a statement drive. It was a good job of setting the tone in the football game and coming out and really establishing and pinning their wheels against a very good defense. Any time you have a defense like that coming in who doesn’t give up a lot of points, it’s going to be tough, but today our offense did a great job of putting points up on the board. That was our focus today – not only whoopin’ their offense but beating their defense, too. And we were able to do that.
Ahmad Bradshaw on his long run:
It was blocked up perfectly. It had Ray Lewis overflowing. I was able to cut back. The D-line was coming from the backside so I was able to push off them. I just tried to use my speed to get into the open field and get into the end zone. I kept looking back, which I shouldn’t have done because it slowed me down. We knew what our offensive line could do coming into the game. We knew what we were supposed to do and knew that no one could stop us from doing it. Our offensive line played a great game and it starts with them.
