Federations Get Specific At IF Sports Forum
Second IF Sports Forum will have representatives from over 100 world governing bodies
LAUSANNE, Switzerland – International federations will again share knowledge and insights on managing their sports at the second IF Sports Forum taking place in Lausanne from November 17-19, 2008. Senior managers from all the international federations – over 100 world governing bodies – have been invited to attend a closed two-day session dedicated to exchanging ideas on the nuts and bolts of IF operations.
“The IF Forum is a unique sharing and learning event for the federations,” said Hein Verbruggen, President of the General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF). “The agenda is about subjects that are specifically relevant to them and their sports. Because attendance is essentially limited to the federation themselves, there is a special atmosphere of solidarity and openness. The success of the first full-fledged edition last year provided a solid foundation to build on and I expect the IF Forum 2008 to be even more valuable.”
The IF Sports Forum will bring together members of GAISF, the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) and the Association of International Olympic Winter Sports Federations (AIOWF). It is being organised in conjunction with Sportaccord, the international sport convention owned by GAISF, ASOIF and AIOWF.
While Sportaccord is the annual global networking platform gathering many of the leading representatives from the international sports community, the IF Sports Forum is designed for the day-to-day decision-making directors and managers of the IFs working in specific disciplines. The new event is by invitation only and aspires to create an open and non-commercial atmosphere.
This year’s programme will feature two main streams: Leadership and Media. Participants will gather in workshops to explore issues and case studies presenting the best practice from the industry across a range of specific topics. In the Leadership stream, these will include such topics as knowledge transfer, financial control and crisis management, while the Media stream will focus on areas like generating press coverage and media revenue and looking after the media at events.
The success of the first IF Forum last year has been underlined by the return of two Official Partners in Eurovision and IEC in Sports, and IFM Sports Marketing Surveys, Infostrada Sports and Yorkshire Forward are new partners this year.
Lausanne, the Olympic Capital, and the Canton of Vaud are the host city partners of the event after hosting the inaugural edition, and Lausanne has confirmed that it will also host the IF Sports Forum next year.
