Rick Burton Departs United States Olympic Committee
New structure will have all divisions responsible for revenue reporting to CEO Scherr
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) announced today the resignation of Rick Burton as the organization’s Chief Marketing Officer. Burton is resigning in order to pursue other professional interests and opportunities, including the reestablishment of his consultancy, the Burton Marketing Group. His resignation is effective Nov. 7.
The USOC will conduct a national search to identify Burton’s successor. In the interim, John Pierce will serve as Acting Director of Marketing Operations, and the Sales and Marketing Division will report directly to Chief Executive Officer Jim Scherr.
As part of a larger organizational realignment, all divisions within the USOC responsible for generating revenue, including Development, which is headed by Chief Development Officer Janine Alfano, now report to Scherr.
“This new structure will enable us to better serve and support the corporations and individuals whose financial participation is essential in sustaining opportunities for America’s athletes to pursue their dreams,” said Scherr.
“Rick brought great passion and energy to his position at the USOC,” added Scherr. “We thank him for his many contributions to our organization and wish him continued success in his future professional endeavors.”
