LIGHTNING FALL TO RED WINGS IN SECOND GAME OF PROSPECT TOURNAMENT
The Tampa Bay Lightning prospects dropped their second game of the Traverse City Prospect Tournament, 3-1, to the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night.
After allowing a first period goal, the Lightning continued to show the ability to bounce back as Daine Todd tied the game at one at the 14-minute mark of the first period. The game remained tied at one after 20 minutes. In the second, Detroit added two more goals from which Tampa Bay would not be able to recover from. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the third period and the game ended, 3-1.
The Lightning accumulated 22 minutes of penalties (all minor penalties) as the penalty killing unit killed all 11 Red Wing power play attempts. Despite being shorthanded for a significant amount of time, Tampa Bay was only outshot 25-24.
Torrie Jung, drafted in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, made 22 saves on 25 shots in his Lightning debut. Former first-round pick Vladmir Mihalik has two assists in the first two games of the tournament.
The team will practice on Sunday before returning to the ice on Monday as they face off against the Atlanta Thrashers at 6:30 p.m.
