CANADA WINS 1ST WUG SOFTBALL

 

Today in Bangkok at the World University Games, Canada posted a come-from-behind, 5-4, win over Chinese Taipei in the softball competition that was the sport?s first at this multi-sport event.  Earlier, Chinese Taipei had shut out Japan, 7-0, to advance and leave the Japanese with the bronze medals.  Australia finished fourth after losing a playoff game to Japan, 3-2.  The rest of the standings in the ten-nation competition were rounded out as follows: Korea (4-2), USA (3-3), Italy (2-3), the Czech Republic (1-4), Thailand (1-4), and South Africa (0-5).
