Women continue play Saturday night and move toward Sunday?s final, which will be televised live nationally on NBC at noon

QUINCY, Mass., August 18, 2007 ? Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers added yet another title to their remarkable 2007 season Saturday, as the No. 2 seed rolled to victory in the inaugural AVP Crocs Tour Bob?s Stores Boston Open.

Dalhausser and Rogers won their eighth tournament this season, beating Casey Jennings and Matt Fuerbringer, 21-16, 21-12 in the championship match at Quincy?s Marina Bay.

?They just couldn?t put many balls down without us touching them,? Rogers said. ?If it wasn?t a great serve by Phil, it was a great block, or I was playing defense or digging. Everything seemed slowed down a bit out there for us.?

Play will continue Saturday with a night session from 7:30-9:30 p.m. under the lights in the stadium court. Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh, the 2004 Olympic beach volleyball gold medalists and the top seed in the women?s bracket, will face fourth-seeded Tyra Turner and Rachel Wacholder in the 8:30 p.m. match; the 7:30 p.m. match pits second-seeded Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs against sixth-seeded Dianne DeNecochea and Barbra Fontana. (Note to media: a press release with updated information and full results will be issued shortly after the conclusion of play).

The AVP Crocs Tour, in partnership with Fenway Sports Group, has brought professional beach volleyball back to New England for the first time in more than a decade. The AVP Crocs Tour Bob?s Stores Boston Open will run through Sunday, August 19 at 260 Victory Rd. (Marina Bay) in Quincy. Tickets and more information are available at www.avp.com/boston.

Play begins Sunday at 8:30 a.m. and runs through 1:30 p.m., with the women?s final scheduled for noon. The men?s and women?s finals of the Boston Open will be televised nationally on NBC starting Sunday at noon.

Dalhaussser and Rogers lost just three games on their way to the Boston Open title. On Saturday, they beat third-seeded Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal, 21-15, 19-21, 15-11, then toppled fifth-seeded Anthony Medel and Fred Souza, 18-21, 21-7, 15-9 in the semifinals before cruising in the championship match.

They have now equaled their win total from a year ago, and have three team events remaining on the 2007 schedule to top that mark. Both Rogers and Dalhausser emphasized their amazement at the crowd support they received, especially in a city that hasn?t hosted professional beach volleyball in more than a decade.

?For a first-time event, this is the biggest crowd we?ve seen ? and the loudest,? Dalhausser said. ?People say Boston is the best sports city in the world, and after this, there?s no doubt in my mind that that?s true. The fans were just going crazy.?

Jennings and Fuerbringer reached the championship match with a 17-21, 21-19, 15-9 semifinals victory over top-seeded Mike Lambert and Stein Metzger. They said they felt confident facing the AVP?s best men?s team, but just couldn?t match them in the final.

?Phil, he was just like a train and we had a BB gun,? Jennings said. ?You don?t win that battle today. Today he was really good and we were okay ? we were average.?

The winners of the AVP Crocs Tour Bob?s Stores Boston Open get a serious boost in the Crocs Cup standings, as each of the five network televised events late in the season are worth double the amount of points that a regular event offers. The winners will take home 720 points and put themselves in solid standing with just two regular-season events remaining in the season-long points race.

The regular season of the 2007 AVP Crocs Tour will culminate in Cincinnati, Ohio with the presentation of the Crocs Cup to the top men?s and women?s team of the season. A team?s points are based upon its best 14 point totals, with cable broadcasted events worth single points, NBC broadcasted events worth double points, and the season finale in Cincinnati, which will be broadcast live on MyNetworkTV, worth triple points. The Crocs Cup is a trophy designed exclusively and crafted for the AVP Crocs Tour by Tiffany & Co. Matt Fuerbringer

?Playing in a final like that, you have so many emotions. You have an awesome crowd behind you, and we were able to stay in it with the crowd behind us, but man, (Dalhausser and Rogers) just didn?t let up. They just stayed on top of us, and when they do that, they just win. They beat us in every way. When we hit is past Phil, Todd dug it. When we didn?t, Phil blocked it. And then Phil came in with the jump serves. Phil outplayed me ? he got more aces and more blocks.?
