(SFC) The IOC has finally confirmed that Paris will host the 2024 summer Games and LA will stage the 2028 summer edition in a historic approval vote in Lima today.

"Congratulations to Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028! This historic double allocation is a 'win-win-win' situation for the city of Paris, the city of Los Angeles and the IOC," said the IOC President, Thomas Bach.

"It is hard to imagine something better. Ensuring the stability of the Olympic Games for the athletes of the world for the next 11 years is something extraordinary.

"These are two great cities from two great countries with a great Olympic history. Both cities are very enthusiastic about the Games and are promoting the Olympic spirit in a fantastic way," Bach exclaimed.

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo was visibly moved at the announcement, "Today I am delighted to invite you to join the great family of Parisians, a family which belongs to the world.

"With this team, I am very proud and moved to bring the Games back to Paris. At the heart of these Games, we will place young people, who represent our present, our hope and our pride."

Los Angeles was elated at the news for the 2028 Games and Mayor Eric Garcetti added, "This is a momentous day for the people of Los Angeles and the United States. For the first time in a generation, we are bringing the Games back to the City of Angels.

"LA loves the OIympics because the Games have lifted up our city twice before. But to us the Games have always represented an even brighter future and the chance to harness the power of sport and the Olympic Movement again to inspire the next generation - for the next 11 years and beyond."

LA 2028 Chairman Casey Wasserman commented, "This 11-year agreement with the IOC is the ultimate validation of LA 2028's New Games for a New Era, and Los Angeles' vision for the future. As a team and as a city, we could not be more excited to be entering into this long-term partnership with the Olympic and Paralympic movements, and with one of the great cities of the world, Paris.

"This will be an extraordinary collaboration that secures the future of the Movement for generations. Now LA 2028 has a golden opportunity, with four more years to prepare and a $2 billion contribution from the IOC, to redefine how hosting the Games can benefit host communities."

The concept to award two Games came back in the spring after a working group of the IOC Vice-Presidents was set up in March and the idea of the Tripartite agreement was born and accepted by both cities.
