(SFC) Los Angeles (LA) 2024 bid leaders applauded United States (US) fans' "insatiable appetite for live sport," after the LA Memorial Coliseum hosted a record soccer crowd for a match between Manchester City and Real Madrid. Manchester City won the match 4-1 in front of a record crowd of 93,098 fans.

Los Angeles is bidding against Paris to host the 2024 Games but is expected to make a statement next week that they will opt for the 2028 Games instead.

LA 2024 pledged to use the city's unique dynamic storytelling and sports presentation capabilities to help Olympic and Paralympic sports tap into the $250 billion sports market, by capturing the imaginations of fans and future athletes.

"On behalf of LA 2024, I'd like to applaud the LA Coliseum as it celebrates another record-breaking night of world-class sport within its hallowed walls. The more than 90,000 fans that showed up last night to warmly welcome the two teams are emblematic of Los Angeles sports fans and American sports fans' passion and insatiable appetite for live sport. As a global hub of storytelling and entertainment, LA is uniquely poised to help the Olympic and Paralympic Movement capitalize on fans' passion for sport. This means not just tapping into the $250 billion US sports market, but creating lifelong Olympic and Paralympic fans, and inspiring the next generation of athletes," expressed LA 2024 CEO, Gene Sykes.

The Coliseum is the proposed venue to host the athletics competition, along with the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the 2024 Games.

This latest achievement for the City of Angels is further evidence of the city's unique potential to grow sport not only in the US but the world.
