(SFC) Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti revealed that LA is on the verge of getting the 2028 Olympics saying "the bid is all but done. We have won." Garcetti was on a Buzzfeed interview when he revealed that the announcement was imminent that the Games would be coming back to the City of Angels.

Los Angeles has been in a two horse race with Paris for the 2024 Games and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) began negotiations in earnest after getting the go ahead at the IOC session in Lausanne for a double awarding of two editions in early July.

Talks have leaned toward Paris getting the 2024 Games as they have a time frame for the sale of the land for the future Olympic Village so they are in more of a time constraint. Since LA has all the facilities ready now they are in more of a negotiable situation to delay to the next edition if the terms are more appealing. One thing that could work in their favor is to have a longer time to prepare and promote and attract tourism to Southern California.

Garcetti explained, "The bid is all but done, we have won. 2024 is not probably most likely to happen, even though the Olympics would be smart to pick us for 2024.

"After we do the Olympics, there is usually a line of cities who would like to do it, so the sooner the better.

"That said, they are making it financially - and we are negotiating this - so attractive we would be stupid not to take 2028.

"My dream is not just to host the Olympics, but to make sport free for every kid here, starting in a year or two.

"Next week we will announce our intentions if we are going to go for 2028 or 2024, Paris will get the other," the Mayor added.

The IOC has planned to finalize the vote on the two cities and their editions on September 13th in Lima at the IOC session.
