Olympics: LA 2024 bid gets a boost from MLS, MLB, NFL support and new LA Rams stadium

(SFC) Local professional sports leagues Major League Baseball (MLB), Major League Soccer (MLS) and the National Football League (NFL) all have voiced their support for the Los Angeles Olympic bid as they join the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA).

LA 2024 Chairman Casey Wasserman commented on the support, "LA 2024 is honored to earn the broad support from MLS, MLB and NFL in addition to our support from the NBA and WNBA. The widespread support is demonstrative of LA 2024's potential to engage new and dynamic partners to benefit the Olympic and Paralympic Movements for decades to come.

  • Los Angeles is bidding against Paris to host the summer Games and is a city that has a varied presence of pro sports and benefits from individual professional teams owners and executives on its Board of Directors, including industry leaders like LA Dodgers, LAFC, and LA Sparks owner Earvin "Magic" Johnson and LA Kings Co-owner Ed Roski, Jr. 

    In a statement issued today the bid reiterated how the support from the leagues will also ensure that the field of play is always state-of-the-art for competitions, will create a sports initiatives programs to attract youth, and will help engage the general public as well as the youth.

  • The backing of the leagues is a major boost for the city and further reinforces the local sports passion in the City of Angels. The IOC will be releasing their report on the two bid cities in just a few weeks the extraordinary session will take place in Lausanne July 11 and 12 and the awarding of two editions of the Games will be tabled in front of the membership to see if they back the plan. The vote is scheduled for September 13th in Lima unless a decision is reached sooner.
