(SFC) The Green Restaurant Association awarded the top four-star rating to the University of California, Los Angeles' (UCLA's) Bruin Plate, which is one of four restaurants and four casual dining facilities within the proposed Olympic and Paralympic Village for the LA 2024 Games.

This rating signifies that UCLA Dining Services at Bruin Plate has a lower environmental cost versus other meals elsewhere. Bruin Plate serves over 5,000 meals a day to residents. The restaurant's 108 sustainable practices were credited by the Green Restaurant Association. Some of the practices included using locally sourced and organic foods; and reducing waste by approximately 50% through recycling.

"On behalf of LA 2024, I'd like to applaud UCLA for Bruin Plate's latest achievement. We are beyond thrilled to offer the athletes of the world not only state-of-the-art living, training and medical facilities at the LA 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Village, but also top-quality and sustainable dining and nutrition options to fuel them throughout the Games," expressed LA 2024 Vice Chair and Director of Athlete Relations, Janet Evans.

In addition, UCLA is the third university in the United States to have a Certified four-star Green Restaurant destination. The residential dining program operates eight restaurants that serve an average of 30,000 meals a day. Residents enjoy a variety of delicious, fresh, and healthy meals in comfortable dining rooms. Each of the restaurants has the ability to serve over 100 meals every six minutes, allowing UCLA to exceed athletes' nutritional needs for the 2024 Games.
