(SFC) This past weekend the Riviera Country Club staged a successful PGA Tour's Genesis Open that gathered some of golf's biggest names, including the gold and bronze medalists that played at the Rio 2016 Games. The Riviera is the LA 2024's proposed golf venue for their Olympic plan and not only does it stage the PGA Tour event, it has also hosted the US Open and two PGA Championships.

"The City of Angels was proud to host current and future Olympians at one of America's most iconic courses, the Riviera Country Club, LA 2024's proposed golf venue," said LA 2024 Chairman Casey Wasserman. "Steeped in golfing history, Riviera has repeatedly shown itself to be an excellent stage for international competitions and is a further example of the world-class sports facilities in LA already hosting elite athletes from around the world."

The prestigious golf club has been home to a number of PGA Tour pros and even hosted Tiger Woods' first PGA Tour event, and is set to host the US Amateur in August 2017.

Olympian and 2016 Genesis Open champion Bubba Watson, remarked on the possibility of LA hosting the Games, "I think it would be amazing. Any time you can get the Olympics in the United States, it's where I'm from, so I'm going to pull for that. Obviously I want to play, but I'm not getting any younger. I would love helping some kids, some younger people have the experience I had at the Olympics. So it would be an amazing time if LA had it and it would be an honor and a privilege to be a part of the Olympics again."

The Riviera golf venue is located in the Santa Monica Canyon next to the Pacific Ocean and is just nine minutes from the proposed Olympic Village at UCLA.

Belgian Olympian Thomas Pieters added, "I've got great memories here and I loved Santa Monica when I stayed here, so it's always been one of my favorite spots to come back."

And former World Number 1 Jordan Spieth noted, "It would be incredible. Slightly more than half the field will have played this event before, and are therefore familiar on the golf course. I think it would showcase beautifully this area. It would be amazing if the Games did come here. It would be pretty cool for the country to have another Olympic Games and really cool for the city of LA."

The PGA Tour's Genesis Open was won by Dustin Johnson by five strokes and this made him the top ranked golfer in the world. Justin Rose, Rio 2016 Olympic champion, finished fourth with fellow Olympians Matt Kuchar, who won bronze in Rio, Thomas Pieters, Segio Garcia and Bubba Watson.
