(SFC) Los Angeles 2024 was fanning its Olympic Dream with celebrations in Koreatown Thursday marking the one year out countdown to the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

Los Angeles is bidding for the 2024 Games against Budapest and Paris.

Angelenos joined LA 2024 bid leaders who staged an evening featuring a custom-made 4-lane street curling sheet in the center courtyard of Koreatown's iconic 1920's Chapman Market with experts from the Hollywood Curling Club, Olympians and Paralympians, and sang their favorite songs at a pop-up karaoke stage. The themed event was held in LA's vibrant Koreatown neighborhood, home to the largest Korean population outside of Korea.

"Tonight's event reminds us that LA is uniquely positioned to warmly welcome the world in 2024, both because we are a city that lives and breathes sport, and because we are a city whose unity has been built on a bedrock of rich cultural diversity," noted LA 2024 Chairman Casey Wasserman. "It is with great pleasure that we were able to provide Angelenos with an opportunity to celebrate the upcoming PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games, and to try their hand at a beloved Olympic sport - curling - right in their backyard. Angelenos overwhelmingly support LA 2024, and today was an example of the citywide excitement and participation the Olympic family could expect from our city should the IOC elect LA as host city."

The fabric of the city is primarily comprised of its diverse communities and the Koreatown event highlighted the local support for the Games. Last year a Loyola Marymount poll revealed that 88% of Angelenos are in favor of the city hosting the Olympics again. The Los Angeles City Council recently unanimously voted to approve the bid authorizing the City of Los Angeles to sign the Host City Contract with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The IOC will vote their final host city in Lima, Peru on September 13, 2017.
