(SFC) PyeongChang 2018 had many things to celebrate at their One-Year-to-Go Countdown Ceremony in Gangneung. One of those milestones was the unveiling of the Olympic Torch and torchbearer uniform.

Olympic figure skating gold medalist, Yuna Kim; 2016 Youth Olympic Games cross-country skiing gold medalist, Magnus Kim; and five young local students unveiled the official Olympic Torch while wearing the new torchbearer uniform.

"Unveiling the Olympic Torch at the PyeongChang 2018 One-Year-to-Go Ceremony represents the start of a countdown to a remarkable celebration. With its beautiful design and technical features, the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Torch will become a symbol of excitement and inspiration of the Olympic Games. The Olympic Torch Relay will bring the spotlight to PyeongChang, sparking passion to connect the world together," expressed PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG) President, Lee Hee-beom.

Korean designer, Young Se Kim designed the torch that is 700 mm, which symbolizes PyeongChang being 700 meters above sea level. The main colors of the 2018 Games, white and gold adorn the torch, along with the symbol of PyeongChang '*'. The flame shape has five prongs to form the symbol and is also engraved around the top and bottom half of the torch.

The five-angled symbol embodies the spirit of sport connecting nations, cultures, genders, races, religions, and the five continents. The torch also has the ability to continuously burn in a number of possible weather conditions that could occur during the flames travels. When the flame is lit, the passion throughout the world will be ignited and the traveling flame will bring together everyone to celebrate the Olympics and the Olympic spirit.

As for the torchbearers, their uniforms design combines the colors of the Olympic Rings of red, blue, yellow, green, and black and the white of the Olympic Torch. The torchbearers will be able to comfortably travel with the flame as the uniform is perfect for various weather conditions. Waterproof fabric makes up the shoulders and front, while the back and sleeves are comprised of water-repellent fabric. Also, the jacket fillings are made of a hybrid material to keep the runners warm.

International Olympic Committee (IOC) Coordination Commission Chair, Gunilla Lindberg stated, "I would like to congratulate POCOG on their beautiful Olympic Torch and torchbearer uniforms, which will play a major role in bringing the excitement of the Games to the whole of the Republic of Korea next winter. The Olympic Torch Relay is unique in its ability to unite people and to transmit the Olympic values. I am confident that a new generation of Koreans will embrace the Olympic Torch Relay, as happened ahead of the Olympic Games Seoul 1988, and that the world will appreciate this important symbol of Korean design."

PyeongChang 2018 Official Supplier, Hanwha Corporation will produce the torches and Olympic Partner, The North Face will produce the torchbearer uniforms.
