(SFC) The Tournament of Roses' Rose Parade and Rose Bowl game provided the Los Angeles 2024 bid with a special opportunity to start the year on a high note promoting the city's Olympic bid.

LA 2024 partnered with the Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board to put together a flower covered "Follow the Sun" float that fanned the city's Olympic spirit to bring the Games back to the City of Angels.

Millions of spectators watched on TV as hundreds of thousands of people lined the streets of Pasadena in LA County to enjoy the New Year tradition. This year the college football games was between Penn State and USC adding to the excitement.

The "Follow the Sun" float was animated with a whole list of top American Olympians and Paralympians namely IOC Member Anita DeFrantz, Nadia Comaneci, Bart Conner, Lex Gillette, April Ross, Haley Anderson, Candace Cable, Dawn Harper-Nelson, Holly McPeak, Howard Shu and Sinjin Smith.

They were accompanied by several young Angeleno athletes with the LA84 Foundation, the youth sports non-profit funded by the profits of the 1984 Games.

In keeping with the theme the "Follow the Sun" float was a composition of over 10,000 roses and other flowers and blossoms that was created with the help of over 500 volunteers. It featured the iconic Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum with a flame burning in its cauldron, and was branded with L.A.'s new Olympic logo - LA 2024's Angel - which flies high above the Coliseum's famed peristyle.

Sports were center stage as live beach volleyball was taking place in the middle of the float depicting L.A.'s diverse recreational activities.

Los Angeles is running against Budapest and Paris to host the 2024 summer Games and the IOC will vote on their final choice in September at the session in Lima, Peru.
