(SFC) Los Angeles (LA) Mayor, Eric Garcetti delivered a visionary speech to a network of the world's largest cities at the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Conference in Mexico City.

Mayor Garcetti announced LA's new actions to increase electric vehicle use and curb greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. He unveiled plans to form partnerships with West Coast cities, so they can combine efforts to fight against climate change. He went on to say that LA will lead the way to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C, which has been set out by the Paris Climate Agreement.

Also, highlighted during his speech was LA's existing target of 80% GHG reductions by 2050, along with a plan to find other strategies to aid their efforts.

"Every city, every community, every individual has the power to fight climate change. We do not need to wait for any one person or government to show us the way. Acting together as cities, we can set an example for our neighbors, spur clean energy innovation, clean up our air, and speed up the inevitable transition to a low-carbon, opportunity-rich future for us all," expressed Mayor Garcetti.

LA 2024 Chairman, Casey Wasserman cited Mayor Garcetti's keynote speech as further evidence of the city's commitment to delivering the "Greenest Games" ever held in Olympic history.

Chairman Wasserman stated "The LA 2024 team are so proud of our Mayor in taking this global leadership position on tackling climate change. The Olympic family can be totally confident that Los Angeles 2024 would be a Games-changer when it comes to environmental sustainability."

Garcetti's initiatives will put LA 2024 at the forefront of the Olympic Movement as they will bring a greener and more sustainable Games to the world. If awarded the 2024 Games, LA will make sure that environmental sustainability is a top priority.
