(SFC) The Paris 2024 Bid campaign received a boost as the PwC "Cities of Opportunity" global report was released showing that the city jumped from sixth overall (2014) to fourth.

"The PwC report is a further boost to our campaign," commented Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo.

The report benchmarks the qualities to make capitals, culture, finance, and business successful. This report particularly focused on governance, education, economics, transport, and health.

"We are delighted with Paris' impressive showing in this report on influential cities around the world. The fact the city improved from sixth to fourth in the last two years also shows that Paris is on an upward curve. The impressive performance across all indicators - from innovation to sustainability, to transportation - is very encouraging. This highlights the contemporary nature, growing strength and continued global stature of Paris," expressed Paris 2024 CEO, Etienne Thobois.

Paris was able to move into fourth place by increasing in four of the ten critical indicator groups and finishing in the top 10 in nine of the 10 group. No other city achieved this. The nine groups in which Paris finished in the top 10 included:

          ·         Demographics and livability

          ·         City gateway

          ·         Ease of doing business

          ·         Economic clout

          ·         Health, safety, and security

          ·         Intellectual capital and innovation

          ·         Sustainability and the natural environment

          ·         Technology readiness

          ·         Transportation and infrastructure

Furthermore, Paris' status as a sharing city and connected technological hub reaffirmed as the city finished at the top in demographics and livability, along with intellectual capital and innovation.

Mayor Hidalgo stated, "Paris is an upwardly mobile, ambitious, innovative, dynamic and cosmopolitan city and this report captures those qualities and the global recognition of modern Paris. I am very proud of what this report says about this great city. The qualities of the city are also totally reflected in our bid and the 2024 Games plan."

The report stated, "The City of Light radiates as brightly as ever," and it went on to praise Paris for its consistency across the board, its mass appeal, and brilliance. The report also commented on the city's improvement on the list stating, "this is the most gratifying, and surely the most inspiring, result in Cities of Opportunity."

Thobois concluded, "As we continue to develop the city's bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games we take renewed strength from this report. It confirms the DNA of modern Paris is at the heart of our bid and that our city would deliver a Games celebrating sport and Olympism right at and from its heart."
