Olympics: LA 2024 receives boost as LA Tourism shares updated tourism data and visitor forecast

(SFC) The Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board (LA Tourism) shared updated tourism data and visitation forecast at their fourth annual Market Outlook Forum with local business leaders and hospitality partners. The new record-setting numbers were a huge boost for the LA 2024 Bid Committee.

Another record setting year for LA shows that visitation in 2016 is expected to rise to over 46.5 million total visitors, which is an increase of 2.4% from last year. Moreover, international visitation is projected to grow about 3.9% to over seven million. Also, domestic overnight visitation is expected to grow 2.1% to almost 24 million in 2016. Furthermore, visitors are estimated to spend over $21.5 billion in 2016, an increase of 4.4% over last year.

"With global interest and desire for the Los Angeles experience propelling the City of Angels towards another banner year in 2016, we have our goal of 50 million visitors by 2020 locked in our sights," expressed President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of L.A. Tourism, Ernest Wooden Jr.

Along with growing tourism for another year, LA's convention businesses are also thriving citywide with 29 total conventions booked for 2017. The estimated economic impact for the combined conventions is about $433 million.

With all the visitors coming to LA, the city's hotel occupancy reached 81.9% for the first half of 2016 and is estimated to total 81.1% for the whole year.

In addition, the LA Market Outlook Forum included guest speakers such as LA 2024 CEO, Gene Sykes. He presented LA 2024's mission that will bring the 2024 Olympics to the city of LA. Executive Vice President and Chief Operation Officer of the LA Rams, Kevin Demoff also spoke at the Forum. Demoff shared some details about the new world-class sport and entertainment venue, along with information about LA's new National Football League Team.

LA 2024 continues to show the world that they are not only prepared to host the Olympic Games, but they are a thriving global destination year round.

Wooden Jr., concluded, "From exploring our hidden gem neighborhoods like the Arts District to becoming fully immersed in our thriving art and culinary scenes, there's never been a better time to get lost in L.A."
