(SFC) Large crowds in Paris gathered to welcome home Team France athletes after a successful showing at the Rio 2016 Olympics. Team France was greeted by media and fans as they arrived at Charles de Gaulle airport. The return celebrations highlighted the French people's passion and love for Olympic sport, while also showcasing the strong public support for Paris 2024.

"Rio 2016 has been a wonderful celebration of sport and an unforgettable experience for the athletes. I would like to thank Rio 2016 and the IOC for making us feel so welcome," commented Paris 2024 Athletes' Committee Co-Chair and Double Olympic Champion, Teddy Riner.

Across a range of sports, a team record of 396 French athletes competed at Rio 2016 and brought home a record 42 medals, with 10 being gold. The French athletes embraced every experience Rio had to offer during the Games while contributing to the unique festival of sport with their outstanding performances and inspiring dedication to their respective sports and the Olympic spirit.

"I would like to congratulate Team France on their record-breaking Games and all other athletes who have competed with dignity and respect in the true spirit of Olympism. The Olympians are the heartbeat of the Games and they can look back with honor and pride at their amazing achievements. We now look forward to returning in September to celebrate and support the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games," expressed Paris 2024 Co-Chairman, Tony Estanguet.

In addition, the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) hospitality house, Club France, allowed for French athletes to show their support for Paris 2024. Club France brought the Paris-Rio connection to life with #Pariocas, which fused the two diverse cultures. They welcomed over 100,000 visitors from all over as everyone was able to watch the Olympics together, party at the onsite nightclub called, Le Club, and enjoy some tasty cuisine.

Furthermore, the Paris 2024 booth was very popular among visitors of all ages, who had the opportunity to glimpse the city's vision to play sport in the heart of Paris through the use of virtual reality. Also, local children were able to participate in daily Olympic sports activities at Club France, alongside various French Olympians. Once the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games come to an end, the equipment used for the sports activities will be donated to Rio's underprivileged communities.

President of CNOSF, Denis Masseglia concluded, "We have had a wonderful experience here in Rio where we have seen incredible performances in the stadiums and arenas. It has also been fantastic to see the celebrations at Club France and the coming together of two cultures to create an amazing fusion of Parioca spirit. It was a wonderful sight to see local children playing sport with French Olympians bringing the true Olympic spirit to the heart of Rio. We will continue to build this momentum as we aim to bring the Games to Paris in 2024 and replicate the unique celebration of sport and Olympism in the heart of the city."
