(SFC) The renderings of a state-of-the-art temporary aquatics facility on University of Southern California's (USC) Dedeaux Field and a modernized LA Memorial Coliseum was released by the LA 2024 Bid Candidature Committee. These venues are proposed to host three aquatics disciplines, along with track and field for the 2024 Games.

Both venues are located within the bid's proposed Downtown Cluster. The LA Memorial Coliseum is no stranger to hosting major international events, such as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 1932 and 1984 Games, along with the track and field events. It's also the home of the USC Trojans football team and the Rams. In 2018, it will undergo a $270 million renovation funded by USC. The renovations will include new hospitality facilities, upgraded sports, media, and training facilities.

LA is working with an LA-based architecture and engineering firm AECOM as the LA 2024 Bid Committee plans to use some of the leading edge fit-out techniques. LA 2024 will reduce cost and minimize disruption to USC's football season as the track surface will be easily removed and returned to USC right after the Closing Ceremony of the 2024 Paralympic Games.

USA Track & Field President, Stephane Hightower stated, "As someone who competed at the Coliseum, I'm excited about LA 2024's plans for track and field. Bringing the sport back to an iconic and modernized LA Memorial Coliseum would provide all athletes with the perfect setting to perform their best and inspire new, young audiences around the globe to follow and participate in sport."

In addition, USC's Dedeaux Field will be transformed into an elite, purpose-built open-air swimming venue using the latest in high-tech temporary stadium construction. Two pools at USC's Uytengsu Aquatics Center will also be adjacent to the venue, which was the site of the swimming competitions of the 1984 Olympics. These will allow divers and athletes the unique chance to train in an Olympic venue.

"Our goal with all of our venue choices has been first and foremost to deliver an excellent field of play and the perfect conditions for the athletic performances of a lifetime. After that, we have tried to create an interesting blend of ultra-modern venues and upgraded iconic sites. We are extremely grateful for the feedback we have received from all of the international sports federations. Their insight has been invaluable in helping us optimize our venue configuration, and every adjustment we have made has been a significant upgrade. LA 2024 is now better placed than ever to deliver the ultimate personalized experience for athletes and every stakeholder of the Olympic Family," expressed LA 2024 Chairman, Casey Wasserman.

LA's commitment to providing athletes with a legendary experience through the use of world-class sports facilities with the minimal construction and cost that is displayed throughout their bid plan. This announcement only further proves this commitment. LA 2024 will continue to consider venue adjustments prior to their final deliverable submission to the International Olympic Committee due in February 2017.
