LA 2024: Disney CEO Bob Iger named Vice Chair for the Olympic bid

(SFC) The Chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, Bob Iger has been appointed as Vice Chair of Los Angeles 2024 Board of Directors by the city's bid committee.  

Bob Iger stated, "The Olympic Movement celebrates the indomitable human spirit and brings people together across continents and cultures in a powerful, shared experience. It's an important endeavor, and I'm proud to support LA 2024's effort to bring the Games back to Los Angeles and to reimagine them in ways that engage the global community, elevate the movement, and inspire a new generation."

Iger works as steward of an iconic LA business, some of the most beloved and respected brands around the world, and the largest media company. During his time with Disney, Iger has built upon the brand's rich history with the acquisition of Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Pixar. He has acted as an industry pioneer through the implementing of new technology to provide diverse audiences around the world with creative content across multiple platforms.

Bob brings a proven track record on how to reach out to young people and families by engaging them with compelling content delivered through the latest digital technology. Previously, Iger served as President and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company. He also served as President of Walt Disney International and Chairman of The ABC Group. Iger's appointment further proves LA 2024's commitment to harnessing California's connectivity, creativity, and innovation to benefit not only their bid for the Games but the Olympic Movement.

Los Angeles Mayor, Eric Garcetti commented, "From our idyllic weather to our wealth of state-of-the-art sport infrastructure, there are many reasons why more than 1,000 Olympians and Paralympians choose to live and train in Los Angeles. In addition to athletes, however, innovators of all stripes - from artists to tech entrepreneurs - choose to call LA home as well because of our ready-made connection with youth culture. For decades, Bob has been a pioneer, forging that connection and discovering new ways to reach vast, diverse audiences around the globe. His experience will be a tremendous boost for LA 2024 as we look to promote the unifying values of sport and the Olympic Movement."

Iger will now join NBA Champion, Olympian, and business leader, Earvin "Magic Johnson; labor leader, Maria Elena Durazo; nine-time Paralympian, Candace Cable; and four-time Olympic champion, Janet Evans as Vice Chairs of the LA 2024 Board of Directors.
