(SFC) The Paris Triathlon and the L'Equipe 10k run drew over 25,000 people to the city of Paris to celebrate sport.

The Paris Triathlon involved almost 1500m (.93 mile) swim, 40k (24 miles) bike ride, and 10k (6.2 miles) run. More than 2,000 athletes participated in the triathlon that took place in the heart of Paris. The route went along the River Seine banks, which could be a route for the Olympic Triathlon if Paris were to win the 2024 hosting rights. The route continued by the Esplanade des Invalides, the proposed Archery Venue, and finished at the iconic Eiffel Tower.

"Today has been a fantastic celebration of mass participation sport here in Paris and I'd like to congratulate all of the participants, spectators, volunteers, and organizers who contributed to such a wonderful day. The enthusiasm and engagement on display demonstrates that Paris will put on a fantastic spectacle if the city wins the right to host the Games in 2024," expressed Paris 2024 Co-Chairman, Tony Estanguet.

In addition, the L'Equipe 10k had record-breaking 23,000 runners and snaked through central Paris. Also, a team from Paris 2024 took part in the run. The route passed various landmarks, including Place de la Bastille, Place de la Republique, and Hotel de Ville. The L'Equipe 10k is the city's third-largest mass participation run after the Paris Marathon and Half Marathon.

Estanguet stated, "Paris is an iconic and cosmopolitan city with a unique blend of tradition and innovation. Our historic landmarks and breathtaking venues provide the perfect platform to showcase Olympic sport.

The events had great participation levels and interest surrounding them as Parisians appetite for such events were showcased, along with Paris' status as a global sports hub. The French capital's capability to host large scale mass participation events were highlighted with the two successful events. It also showed how passionate Parisians are for Olympic sport.

"Sport is an integral part of everyday life in Paris and the passion and desire to watch and participate in the Paris Triathlon and the L'Equipe 10k gives us huge encouragement as we continue our campaign to deliver an amazing Olympic and Paralympic Games for Paris in 2024," concluded Estanguet.
