Olympic Champion Lee Sang-hwa named Honorary Ambassador for PyeongChang 2018

(SFC) The PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG) has appointed Korea's speed skating champion, Lee Sang-hwa as an Honorary Ambassador. She won consecutive gold medals in the Women's 500-meter events at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics and Sochi 2014 Games. Lee currently holds the world record at 36.36 seconds in the 500-meter.

Furthermore, she topped the podium at the ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships in the 500-meter event. The hopes of sports fans have been raised as Lee looks to capture her third consecutive gold medal in PyeongChang.

In addition, POCOG made the announcement during a ceremony in Seoul, South Korea. Both Lee and POCOG Secretary General, Yeo Hyung-koo addressed the media and spoke about the new appointment.

"POCOG is currently striving to prepare for the successful operations of the Games. It is now time to engage the participation and passion of the world to the PyeongChang 2018 Games. I truly believe that Lee Sang-hwa will play an important role in drawing public attention and interest to the Games," expressed Yeo Hyung-koo.

Lee went on to say, "PyeongChang 2018 is the first Olympic Winter Games to be held in Korea, and as a Korean winter sports athlete, it is an honor to be named Honorary Ambassador for the 2018 Games."

"With less than 2 years to the start of the Games, I will do my very best both as an athlete and as Honorary Ambassador to attract sports fans to the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games," commented Lee.

PyeongChang 2018 has furthered strengthened its awareness and promotions with the newly appointed Honorary Ambassador. Lee will participate in POCOG's major events and engage the public. Also, she will actively take part in the networking and online promotion of PyeongChang 2018.

In the meantime, Lee and fellow POCOG Honorary Ambassador, Lee Kyu-hyuk will showcase their talents in Korea's famous entertainment show.
