(SFC) The French capital, Paris has confirmed it has the experience and capabilities required to successfully host international sports events. The Visa Paris ePrix took place in the heart of the city and attracted over 15,000 fans for the FIA governed Formula E series seventh round.

"This weekend we have witnessed another fantastic international sports event in the heart of Paris, reaffirming the city's status as a world-class sporting destination. It is inspiring to see more than 15,000 fans turning out to watch the race and this highlights the passion and hunger Parisians and people across France have for major sporting events taking place in the center of the city," expressed Paris 2024 CEO, Etienne Thobois.

Located at the Hotel national des Invalides, proposed 2024 Archery venue, was the circuit. It was set against a breathtaking background of the Musee de l'Armee. The race was in close proximity to various 2024 proposed venues including the Eiffel Tower, which will overlook the Beach Volleyball competitions if Paris is awarded the 2024 Games. The race circuit also was near the River Seine that will turn into a 'river trail' of sponsor activities, live sites, and sports demonstration.

Thobois added, "With its amazing backdrops and iconic city center landmarks, Paris' unique blend of traditional and modern presents a fantastic setting for incredible live sporting experiences and broadcast opportunities. The city's reputation as a hub for international sport provides the ideal platform to extend the core values of the Olympic Movement to a new generation of fans around the world, inspiring more young people to follow and participate in sport."

This successful hosting will give a boost to the city's bid to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It reaffirms that they have what it takes to host the 2024 Games.

Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, stated, "Hosting this race in the heart of Paris is a way to put the city at the service of sport and we are delighted to offer a stunning setting for this incredible event. It is also a way to take action to tackle climate change and reduce carbon emissions. Today, we celebrate the forward-thinking innovation of these amazing high-performance electric cars and we underline our commitment to move forward towards a more sustainable way of life for future generations."

"Formula E is the world's first fully-electric racing series and its environmentally friendly values mirror Paris 2024's commitment to sustainability and green initiatives," concluded Thobois.
