(SFC) In an effort to reach out to the local youth the Los Angeles bid for the 2024 Summer Games has signed an agreement with social media giant Snapchat.
The social media portal has 100 million daily active users and the majority are aged 13-34 giving the LA 2024 bid a strong advantage to inspire interest in these age groups.
Snapchat will offer to users in specific neighborhoods of the city special Geofilters - location-based artistic overlays - featuring the LA 2024 logo that they can use to decorate their photo and video Snaps.
These logo labeled Geofilters will be available at a variety of venue clusters: UCLA and Santa Monica Pier - Coastal Cluster, USC, Coliseum and LA Live - Downtown Cluster, Sepulveda Dam Recreation Area - Valley Cluster, StubHub Center complex - South Bay Cluster.
"Los Angeles is a world-leader in creativity and innovation, and LA 2024 will put California's unparalleled tech and innovation capability at the service of the Olympic Movement.," said LA 2024 Chairman Casey Wasserman. "We have set out our vision to create a new Games for a new era and with 10 of the world's top tech companies based in Los Angeles and the wider California region, we are able to draw upon an abundance of creative expertise to help achieve this vision.
"We are thrilled to have Snapchat on board to help celebrate the potential of an LA Games and promote the Olympic Movement in new and compelling ways."
The American bid released the results of a recent poll gauging public interest at 88 percent and this doorway to the youth will likely fuel that flame.
LA 2024 CEO Gene Sykes added, "Our partnership with Snapchat perfectly reflects LA 2024's commitment to re-connecting young people with the Olympic Movement by harnessing Los Angeles' culture of creativity, innovation and youthful energy. The storytelling power of our city's creative community means that Los Angeles is uniquely positioned to reignite passion and belief in Olympism.
"If we had the honor of hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024, it would provide LA and America with a platform for unprecedented youth engagement, inspiring healthy living and even greater social cohesion through sport."
The 2024 Olympic bid race is currently between Los Angeles, Rome, Budapest and Paris. The IOC will vote their final host in 2017 at the session in Lima, Peru.
