(SFC)  'The art of the Italian welcome to unite the world through sport"... this is the vision of Rome for their bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.  Focusing on culture, lifestyle and landscapes; families; tradition and innovation/technology, Rome wants to strive to build on the legacy of the 1960 Games, and create a new milestone in the history of the city..

The Rome 2024 Games Concept has many interconnected components to it.  The bid committee seeks to create 'a festival of sport for future generations' through unique athlete experiences.  This will most certainly include iconic settings for sports including the Circo Massimo, the Fori Imperial, and the Coliseum.

The sustainable venue concept includes many facilities that were used for Rome 1960, as well as many modern facilities around the city being currently utilized by professional and amateur sport organizations.  This will allow for a more fiscally responsible approach to Olympics planning, in line with Olympic Agenda 2020.

Rome 2024 also boasts the ability to provide an exceptional Games experience for all - participants and spectators alike.  With the significant tourism industry already a part of the DNA of both Rome and Italy, opportunities to fully immerse in the culture and history of the region is an attractive part of the bid.

According to Rome 2024 bid chairman and former Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo "Customer satisfaction is fundamental for the athletes, their families and the spectators.  Here they will be able to take in the culture and touch things with their hands that maybe they have only seen on TV or studied in school.  We want to offer athletes' families the chance to travel by train to Florence and admire the Uffizi Gallery and then go to Naples and Pompeii the next day -- for free... who else can offer that?"

There were questions about public and governmental support for the bid.  However the Italian Parliament and Italian Premier have both publically announced their support for the bid.  Speaking about that support, Italian Premier Matteo Renzi commented ""The Italian Parliament adopted, by a large majority, a clear and indisputable position on the candidature of Rome to the Olympic Games of 2024.  It is a strong yes, an expression of the popular will, which blows away controversies and gives to the city and the country an important opportunity for economic redemption and the revival of international image."

Rome is running against Budapest, Los Angeles, and Paris to host the 2024 Games. The IOC will choose their final winner at the official session that will take place at Lima, Peru in 2017.
