Olympics: Tokyo 2020 organizing committee announces new Vice Director General, Spokesman and Chief Security Officer

(SFC) The Tokyo 2020 organizing committee announced today three new key appointments with a new Vice Director General, Spokesman and Chief Security Officer. Yusuke Sakaue was named new Tokyo 2020 Vice Director General, Toshiro Yonemura is the new Chief Security Officer and Hikariko Ono the new spokesperson.      

Tokyo 2020 CEO Toshiro Muto said, "I am delighted to welcome Yusuke Sakaue, Toshiro Yonemura and Hikariko Ono as new members of our team.

"It is essential that the organising committee draws on the wisdom and expertise of people from diverse backgrounds. Their appointments reflect the strength of our "Best of Japan" team and the level of world-class excellence that we will be providing for the Tokyo 2020 Games. Their presence will immediately enhance the committee and their experience will be a crucial factor in our preparations and delivery of successful and safe Games in 2020."

Yusuke Sakaue has served as the Chairman of UD Trucks Corporation and had a successful career at the Industrial Bank of Japan before becoming the Managing Director of Mizuho Securities in 2000.

A Tokyo 2020 Board member since 2014, Toshiro Yonemura has a long background with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department going back to 1974 and became Superintendent General in 2008. He has served as the Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary for Crisis Management from 2011 to 2014.

Hikariko Ono started out with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1988 and then became the Deputy Cabinet Secretary for Public Affairs of the Prime Minister's Office. Then she was appointed Managing Director of the Japan Foundation in 2014.

All three will start their duties in January of 2016 at the beginning of the New Year.  

**LAURA WALDEN has over twenty-five years of experience in the Olympic Movement, formerly at the European Olympic Committees with SportEurope under former IOC President Dr. Jacques Rogge and IOC Member Mario Pescante. She worked with the Rome 2004 and Turin 2006 Olympic bids and also managed PR & media for Dr. Jacques Rogge during his campaign for the presidency.
