LA 2024 appoints Tanja Olano and Anna Schmitz to Olympic bid legal team

(SFC) Los Angeles 2024 named Tanja Olano and Anna Schmitz to the Candidature Committee's legal team. They will join LA 2024's General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, Brian Nelson. The appointments underline LA 2024's commitment to ensuring that they have the highest standards of transparency, compliance, and good governance. The in-house attorneys for LA 2024 will work on the city's candidature and will collaborate closely with Proskauer Rose Partner, Jon Oram; LA Mayor, Eric Garcetti's Counsel, Rich Llewellyn; and Deputy Counsel, Manav Kumar.

Tanja Olano will serve as LA 2024's Deputy General Counsel. She came from Sheppard, Mullin, Richter and Hampton law firm and served as the lead associate on real estate and large corporate transactions. Throughout her career, Olano has provided pro bono advice to non-profit organizations relating to operational matters, grants, entity formation, and real estate matters. She is a graduate of USC and the George Washington University School of Law. Olano is also a member of both the National Hispanic Bar Association and Orange County Hispanic Bar Association. LA 20240 will benefit from her vast amount of experience advising businesses on real estate transactions, acquisitions and mergers, and financing.

The addition of Anna Schmitz enhances LA 2024's sustainability credentials as she joins as Staff Attorney. She comes from the non-profit sector, where she worked on environmental issues that related to the cap-and-trade program for California. She also spent a year on a Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship in Germany. Schmitz worked on energy technology and international climate policy at Allianz Climate Solutions, GmbH and the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. She received her undergraduate from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Services and completed her law studies at the University of Virginia, School of Law. Schmitz together with Olano will manage the committee's compliance issues.

Also, Brian Nelson joins the team from the California Department of Justice, where he was the General Counsel. Before that, he was the Special Assistant to Attorney General, Kamala Harris. He has also worked as an appellate associate at Sidley Austin law firm in Washington, D.C. Nelson served as Deputy Chief of Staff at the US Department of Justice National Security Division. He completed his undergraduate at UCLA and received his Juris degree from Yale Law School. Nelson will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in private practice and public service areas.
