(SFC) Yesterday, Los Angeles (LA) 2024 reinforced their commitment to an environmentally-friendly and uniquely sustainable Games by pledging their support to the attendees of the 21st session of the "Conference of the Parties" to the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21) being held in Paris brings together world leaders in a global effort to reduce the effects of global warming and future temperature rises.

As a pioneer in sustainable development, LA is focused on extending environment commitment to the 2024 Olympic Games Candidature Committee. LA has the highest recycling rate and installed the most solar power of any city in the Untied States. The city also has more LEED-certified square feet than in the world. LA is ideally situated to aid the International Olympic Committee (IOC) put down a sustainable Games blueprint.

"On behalf of LA 2024, I would like to commend all COP21 participants as they gather to search for global solutions to climate change. Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time, and COP21 will be critical for accelerating international action on sustainability," expressed LA 2024 Chair, Casey Wasserman.

He added, "Cities have a responsibility to respond to climate change - that's why Los Angeles has harnessed new innovations to protect our natural environment, often acting as a testing ground for new environmental policies that are later adopted throughout the United States. With California Governor, Jerry Brown and Los Angeles Mayor, Eric Garcetti participating at the Paris summit, we will be following the conference as it progresses and tracking the outcomes with great interest. LA 2024 is committed to creating a sustainable bid in accordance with Olympic Agenda 2020 and, as such, we look forward to listening and learning from the international leaders at the Paris summit."
