(SFC) South Korean MLB pitcher the Los Angeles dodgers has been appointed as Honorary Ambassador for the PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG).

Hyun-jin Ryu, a starting lineup pitcher, will be helping POCOG to spread awareness about the Olympic and Paralympic winter Games during promotional activities on the official website and also across all their social media channels.  As he's playing ball in the United States he will be representing POCOG as well at events that take place in America.

He rose to fame playing with the South Korean national team at the Beijing 2008 Olympics winning a gold medal. In the team's third game of round-robin play, Ryu pitched a 1-0 complete game shutout victory over Canada with 13 strike-out records. Later he went on to represent the South Korean national baseball team at the 2009 World Baseball Classic finishing in second place and at the 2010 Asian Games winning the gold medal.

POCOG President Yang-ho Cho said at the official nomination ceremony in Seoul, "As a world-class athlete, Ryu's participation will be a great asset to magnify public interest and awareness about the upcoming Winter Games in 2018."

The celebrated pitcher added that his participation aims to target the youth, "The Olympic Games is a great opportunity to inspire dreams and hopes for the next generation of athletes. I will do my very best to attract sports fans' interest and participation in the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018."

Ryu joins the list of 13 Honorary Ambassadors for POCOG including Yuna Kim (Figure skating gold medalist) and Minho Lee (K-Wave star actor), Lindsey Vonn (Olympic Alpine Skiing Champion) and Shin-soo Choo (Major League Baseball Outfielder).

With two MLB players Ryu and Choo in the ambassador line-up, POCOG is working to inspire future baseball players.
