(SFC) When one talks of Italy, their first thought is the capital city of Rome. The cosmopolitan city has two and a half thousand years of globally influential architecture, culture, and art. It is a truly beautiful and unique city that received the name of 'Eternal City.'

The Eternal City has many beautiful places for travelers to visit and experience the thousands of years of history. Visitors can take in the presence of the former Roman Empire by visiting the famous Colosseum, which is a symbol of the city's history and endurance. As the Colosseum has endured through the centuries, so has the city of Rome. Another historical site that is a must-see is the Pantheon, the magnificent temple that dates back to 27 AD.

In addition, the city is the home of the Vatican City, the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church. Within the Vatican City is the Basilica of St. Peter, the Sistine Chapel, and a variety of Vatican museums for all to enjoy. The architecture, history, and art is a real stunning site. There are many tourist buses that are available so that travelers can learn all the history Rome has to offer.

For those wishing to take a walk through unique scenery, one must make their way to the Savello Park, also known as the Garden of Oranges. When travelers are done exploring the historical sites, one can do some traditional Rome shopping in the Tridente neighborhood. The streets are lined with top international and Italian fashion designer shops, along with famous jewelry stores. Also, attending a theater or dancing performance would be a joy for all.

Furthermore, visitors can experience an explosion of scents, shapes, and colors of the Flower Market. The vibrant atmosphere is the perfect stage to show off nature the area has to offer. During the jammed packed days, travelers will be able to choose from a number of restaurants, but one must try the famous Italian food including Rome's pizza.

All this may seem a lot to do and walking may become tiresome, but Rome has an excellent public transportation system that makes it easy to get around. The city's buses and metro will be able to get passengers to all the major sites and attractions. Rome also has many great accommodations for any and all travelers to the city. It is a great place to visit for those of all ages.

The eternal city has many wondrous things to see and do. Though make sure to finish the trip with a visit to the Trevi Fountain. It is said when a visitor throws a coin into the fountain; they will one day return to the city. As Rome bids to host the 2024 Olympic Summer Games, maybe many will be returning for the Games, only time will tell.
