XVII Congress of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan elects Timur Kulibayev as new President

(SFC) During the XVII Congress of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Timur Kulibayev was elected as the new President of the NOC of Kazakhstan. Also, appointed by the Congress were Executive Board members, who will work under President Kulibayev.

All NOC members supported Kulibayev's candidature, which resulted in a unanimous vote in his favor. He succeeds former President, Temirkhan Dosmukhambetov, who had held the position since 2006.

The NOC Executive Board officials elected as NOC Vice Presidents included Kairat Boranbayev, Timur Dossymbetov, Askar Mammin, and Andrey Kryukov. Elected as NOC Secretary General was Daniyar Abulgazin.

Many sport and public representatives, other NOC officials attended the Congress, along with the Minister of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Arystanbek Mukhamediuly. The Congress concluded with the newly elected President thanking all participants and highlighting the tasks ahead for the NOC. He stressed the importance of preparing for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. He also talked about how they must continue to strengthen their relationships with the world's leading International Sport Federations and NOCs, Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

President Kulibayev stated, "Nowadays, progress is impossible without modern approaches, that means all of our aspirations should be based on innovation and proven best practices."

In addition, President Kulibayev outlined other primary goals that included, training of highly qualified professionals; developing mass sport within the country; enhancing the role of the National Federations, while keeping communication open with them; and having a close relationship with the Ministry of Culture and Sport.

Furthermore, President Kulibayev requested that the Executive Board align the NOC of Kazakhstan's Charter with Olympic Agenda 2020 through the development of a long-term plan.  

He is also the Vice President of the International Boxing Association (AIBA), Chairman of the Confederation of Combat and Power Sports, and President of the Boxing Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
