(SFC) Following a visit to the Brazilian capital for the Rio Open, International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) President, Ary Graça conveyed his confidence that the volleyball and beach volleyball events will be very successful at the Rio 2016 Games. The Rio Open is serving as a second Olympic test event staged by FIVB following the World League Finals in July.

Competing athletes have spoken enthusiastically about the event and the venue location, which is situated on the iconic Copacabana beach. The excellent site creates an electric atmosphere that is generated by Brazil's loving volleyball fans. To replicate the conditions that will occur during the Games next year for the athletes, some matches were played at night.

In addition, FIVB Beach Volleyball Events Director, Angelo Squeo and President Graça met with the FIVB Rio 2016 Sports Coordinator, Guilherme Marques and FIVB Rio 2016 Competition Manager, Giovane Gavio during their visit to discuss the Olympic preparations. It's expected that the volleyball and beach volleyball events will be flagship events at the Rio 2016 Games. To deliver the most engaging family sports entertainment achievable, FIVB will utilize the sport's popularity in Brazil and the most advanced sports technology.

President Graça stated, "With just under one year to go until the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, this is a very exciting time for everyone involved in volleyball. I have been very impressed with the organization of the Rio Open and the feedback from athletes has been excellent."

He concluded, "I have no doubt that beach volleyball and volleyball will be a huge success at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. I was born in Rio, and I know full well just how much everybody here in Brazil, from adults to children, loves volleyball. The world's best athletes can expect a wonderful atmosphere in world-class venues in 2016."
