(SFC) A press conference was held yesterday by the Turkish Olympic Committee (TOC) and Samsung to promote the Samsung Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race. The conference took place at the Olympic House and featured the event's celebrity swimmer, Adam Walker.

The world-famous annual event is organized by the TOC and their partner Samsung. The event is expected to attract a record 1,988 swimmers from 49 different countries to participate in the open water race on Sunday (July 26). Among the participants will be TOC's honorary celebrity guest, Adam Walker. Known as a renowned endurance swimmer, Walker is one of the six people to swim the Oceans 7, which is the world's hardest seven channel swims. He is also only the second person in history to achieve this feat in only one attempt.

Walker will hold an exhibition swim at the Bosphorus, today. Emre Seven, the first Turkish swimmer to swim the Strait of Gibraltar; Ahmet Nakkaş, the 2014 International Swimming Federation (FINA) World Masters Swimming Champion; and Nesrin Ongun, the first Turkish female swimmer to cross the Channel, will accompany him on the swim.

"The Samsung Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race is one of the world's most famous swimming races, which is why it continues to attract record participation year on year. Through our cooperation with Samsung, who have sponsored this race for the last ten years, we have helped this event grow from a local swim with 68 swimmers, into a major international competition featuring thousands of swimmers from across the globe," expressed President of the TOC, Professor Uğur Erdener.

On Sunday, the main race will take place with swimmers starting from Kanlıca on the Asian side of Istanbul and will cross the finish line in Kuruçeşme Cemil Topuzlu Park, located on the European side. The race will include 892 international and 1,096 national swimmers. Walker will kick-start the 6.5 km race and will be waiting to congratulate the winner as they finish the race.

President of Samsung Electronics Turkey, Yoonie Joung stated, "As Samsung, we believe that sports has an important mission as a powerful tool that crosses the borders and continents and unites people from different cultures, promoting peace and tolerance. With this understanding, as a global sponsor of Olympics, we have been supporting the Turkish Olympic Committee for 11 years. We are proud to host a swimming race, where thousands of swimmers strike out in the Bosphorus Strait, which has become a symbol of 'removing borders', uniting Asia and Europe. This event, which has been organized under the name of Samsung since last year, is a real source of pride for us. We believe that we make a strong contribution to the promotion of Turkey, and the popularity of the race has been increased with the brand power of Samsung. Also, we made an attention-grabbing film, with a striking script, to promote the race in line with its spirit. Our film has been viewed by over 3 million people, getting gratifying comments worldwide on digital media. This overwhelming attention that our film has received, once again, proves the uniting power of sports, as well as making a tremendous contribution to the promotion of Turkey. At the end of the film, we make a call saying, 'The Bosphorus is beautiful, why don't you come over!' Also, as Samsung, we are very happy to present swimmers and viewers a unique experience to be remembered for a lifetime."
