(SFC) HeForShe, which is a solidarity campaign for gender equality established by United Nations (UN) Women, has named International Olympic Committee (IOC) President, Thomas Bach as an ambassador for the campaign.

Created in September 2014, HeForShe encourages men and boys to join in on the fight for women's rights and gender equality all over the glove. Their goal is to enlist one billion men and boys to become advocates for women's rights worldwide.

Hundres of thousands of men have voiced their commitment to gender equality, since the campaign's launch, and gave their full support for the program.

President Bach stated, "It is an honor for me to be named HeForShe ambassador by the UN Secretary-General."

He continued saying, "The International Olympic Committee has long championed gender equality and the empowerment of women. Through our Olympic Agenda 2020 reforms, we are even more firmly committed to using sport and physical activity to further this cause. We know that sport challenges gender norms and defies negative stereotypes. It helps break down barriers and challenges gender norms, not only on the field of play, but also in the workplace, in the home, in schools and in other aspects of society. As a HeForShe ambassador, I will continue to support and promote gender equality in my day-to-day activities as IOC President."

Executive Director of UN Women, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka; UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon; President of the UN General Assembly Sam Kahamba Kutesa; and UN Women Global Goodwill Ambassador Emma Watson launched the HeForShe campaign.
