(SFC) Applications for the 27th annual Samsung Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race will be made available today. The city anticipates another record year for this renowned event.

Istanbul’s iconic Bosphorus strait will be the site for 27th version of this event. The strenuous 6.5km race from Asia to Europe connects the Black Sea with the Sea of Marmara. The race will be held on 26 July 2015.

This Event has a history of attracting high-profile athletes amongst the swimming community. Last year Dutch swimmer Inge de Bruijn appeared at the event as a celebrity guest, and Britain’s Pippa Middleton participated in the event. Last year’s race attracted a record 1,661 swimmers from around the world, with Turkey’s own Hasan Emre Musluoglu winning gold with a time of 41 minutes and 26 seconds.

Professor Dr. U─čur Erdener said “The Samsung Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race is a truly unique event and one which attracts more and more athletes – of all ages and abilities – every year. Last year we welcomed a record number of participants from all over the world, and this year we expect even more swimmers to compete against Istanbul’s stunning backdrop.”
