(SFC) International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach arrived at the XV Summit of the French-speaking world in Senegal, Dakar, which opened yesterday. This comes with only a few days left until the IOC Session in Monaco, where the Olympic Agenda 2020, a roadmap that will outline the future of the Olympic Movement, will be approved. This marks the first time an IOC President has attended this Summit.

In addition to the Summit, it will give the IOC President time to meet various heads of state and government, who are in attendance in Dakar. This gives him the opportunity to discuss the importance of the Olympic Movement in molding an active youth, along with building an everlasting peace. Also, the IOC President will be able to touch on the role that sport can play in society with the heads of state and government at the Summit. The President will have a chance to reinforce the need for the IOC to maintain its independence, but at the same time, protecting the need for an unending dialogue with the world's political leaders.

Aside from the Summit, the IOC President will take advantage of such an event to present the Olympic Order in gold, which is the highest Olympic distinction to Abdou Diouf. Abdou Diouf is the former President of the Republic of Senegal and the current Secretary General of the Organization Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), who has his term in office coming to an end. Abdou Diouf was praised for his work and commitment in improving the French language within Olympism, by the IOC President.

The XV Summit, of the French-speaking world, will take place in the Senegalese capital for two days, Saturday and Sunday. The Summit will come to a close with the election of a new Secretary General of the OIF.
