(SFC) The ANOC Executive Council's unanimous backing of the recommendations brought forward by the IOC for the Olympic Agenda 2020 following the ANOC Executive Council meeting in Bangkok was confirmed today by Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, ANOC President.

After attending the meeting of the IOC Executive Board in Lausanne at the end of October, IOC President Thomas Bach gave an update on the Olympic Agenda 2020 at the ANOC Executive Council meeting. Earlier this year, the ANOC has shown their support for the Olympic Agenda 2020, and urged all 204 NOCs to participate in the discussions ahead of their presentations of a consolidated document to the IOC.

Aside from this, the ANOC Executive Council discussed reports of the nine ANOC Commissions and Working Groups, which will presented in two days at the largest ever ANOC General Assembly. Along with this, a new article in the ANOC Constitution will be brought forward at the General Assembly. It will require at least one female representative to be elected by each Continental Association for the ANOC Executive Council.

“We were grateful to receive an update on Olympic Agenda 2020 from IOC President Thomas Bach. We unanimously support all the recommendations made by the IOC Executive Board last week in Lausanne. The Olympic Agenda 2020 will shape the future development of the Olympic Movement and we have every confidence that under President Bach’s leadership these recommendations will benefit not just the NOCs, but all Olympic stakeholders," stated ANOC President Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah after the meeting.

He continued saying, “At ANOC we are currently undergoing our own process of self-analysis and evaluation. Our nine ANOC Commissions and Working Groups will present their action plans to the ANOC General Assembly on Friday. These plans will play an integral part in ensuring that ANOC continues to improve the support it offers all 204 of its NOCs. Our function is to empower the NOCs so they can adapt and contribute to this new Olympic Movement under the leadership of President Bach and Olympic Agenda 2020.”
