(SFC) The Hanhwa 63 Building Convention Centre in Seoul held the keynote speech of the 2014 International Sports Relations Foundation Forum Monday.

Olympic Council of Asia President HH Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah of Kuwait delivered the keynote speech, in which he spoke on the difficulties facing elite athletes once they finish their athletic careers. Sheikh Ahmad said it was important for those athletes to find a sport-related field for a post-athletic career, and that ISR Foundation could provide those opportunities.

ISR Foundation President and International Olympic Committee member Moon Dae-sung revealed ISR Foundation had plans to create one-and-a-half-year courses for athletes in Korea to support the country’s athletes.

“After you become a star athlete and then need to move into the workforce, this is a very important topic,” Sheikh Ahmad said at Hanhwa 63 Building Convention Centre. “The future for them will be as a coach or in the technical side of sport, but for the majority of athletes it will be out to normal life. I hope this Foundation will be supportive, through government and the Olympic Movement, of retiring athletes. We believe this is the future of the loyal and appreciated former players.”

Sheikh Ahmad also highlighted the acceptance of Korea as a hub for major international sport, as the country hosts the 17th Asian Games in Incheon and PyeongChang readies for the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. Seoul and Busan also hosted the Asian Games in 1986 and 2002, respectively.

Korean Olympic Committee President Kim Jung-haeng and National Assembly Speaker Chung Ui-hwa gave congratulatory speeches at the International Sports Relations Foundation Forum.
