(SFC) International Olympic Committee TOP Partner Samsung Electronics Levant will sponsor Jordanian athletes at the upcoming 17th Asian Games after partnering with the Jordan Olympic Committee Tuesday.

The Asian Games, scheduled for 19 Sept. to 4 Oct., will welcome more than 13,000 athletes and team officials from 45 National Olympic Committees to Incheon, South Korea. One hundred and fifty-six Jordanian representatives – the most sent to an Asian Games – will compete in 12 sports in Incheon, including men’s and women’s football, basketball, men’s and women’s taekwondo, men’s and women’s karate, boxing, triathlon, cycling, judo, squash, wushu, wrestling, and weightlifting.

Five of the athletes from Jordan have been selected as ‘faces’ of Team Samsung, a combination of Team Jordan and Samsung Electronics Levant.

“Sponsoring Team Samsung in the Asian Games affirms Samsung’s commitment towards supporting youth and Jordanian talent, and highlighting Jordan’s participation in the Asian Games,” Samsung Electronics Levant President Bumsuk Hong said. “At Samsung we believe in supporting Jordanian athletes to participate and compete in global sporting events, and to have pride in Jordanian achievements by encouraging and supporting top athletes to help them inspire others with their passion.

“We wish Team Samsung the best of luck in the Games, representing the spirit of Jordan with their honourable sportsmanship.”

The Jordan Olympic Committee recently replaced bicycle equipment for six national team cyclists after an unfortunate automobile accident on Airport Road in Jordan. The JOC’s Living Sport vision – “for sport and healthy living to play a role in the lives of all Jordanians” – will be exemplified by the athletes competing in the Asian Games through the support of the JOC and Samsung.

“This partnership with Samsung Electronics Levant marks a new direction for the Jordan Olympic Committee following the launch of our new Living Sport initiative earlier this year,” Jordan Olympic Committee Secretary General Lana Al Jaghbeer said. “One of the key elements to Living Sport is making the JOC, and sport in general, more accessible and marketable. For a company the size and with the reputation of Samsung to recognise this is a massive boost to our continuing efforts to make sport and healthy living integral to the lives of all Jordanians.”
