(SFC) The Sentez-Vous Sport festival – to be held 13-21 Sept. – and French National Olympic Committee have partnered with the Baku 2015 European Games to encourage people to lead a more active lifestyle.

The Sentez-Vous Sport festival, in its fifth year, is held in schools, universities, and businesses throughout France with the aid of the French National Olympic Committee and each of the country’s sporting federations. Workshops teach people the benefits of participating in regular physical activities.

Six Azerbaijani athletes that competed in the Nanjing 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games last month will represent the 2015 European Games host country, while Baku 2015 will be visible in television promotions, social media, and print media in France during the Sentez-Vous festival.

“Sentez-Vous Sport is an innovative way of encouraging more people to make sport a central part of their lifestyle,” Azerbaijan Minister of Youth and Sport and Baku European Games Operation Committee Chief Executive Officer Azad Rahimov said. “With 66 percent of the population under the age of 35, Azerbaijan’s current young generation is very enthusiastic about sport and in the future, we would like to replicate with outstanding initiative in our own country.”

Four-time National Basketball Association champion and European Champion Tony Parker and Athens 2004 gold medallists Laure Manaudou will serve as ambassadors for the festival in France, where more than 100 sports will be represented.

“We are delighted to welcome Azerbaijan and Baku 2015 to this initiative and their support will encourage and reinforce our efforts to develop Sentez-Vous Sport as a way of energising our nation.”

“This is a wonderful opportunity for Baku 2015 European Gmes to help promote sport and raise awareness of the Games in another part of the continent,” Baku 2015 Chief Operating Officer Simon Clegg said. “France are a major European sporting power and to support Sentez-Vous Sport in their work is a link to the desire to leave a legacy of healthy living in Azerbaijan after the Games.”
