(SFC) Oslo daily VG polled 1,020 people in Norway Wednesday to find 56 percent of citizens oppose hosting the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Oslo. Just 30 percent of those polled were in favour of the Games.

Last year, VG said 45 percent were not opposed to the Games, while the head of the Oslo 2022 Bid Committee, Eli Grimsby, claimed two polls taken in August revealed between 32 and 34.5 percent of Norway were in favour of hosting the Games.

“We see there is a difference, support in the VG poll is somewhat lower for the yes-side,” Grimsby said.

Thought the country successfully hosted the Oslo 1952 and Lillehammer 1994 Winter Olympic Games, the Norwegian government has yet to give its support of the bid.

The International Olympic Committee will choose between Oslo, Beijing, and Almaty for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games Host City at the 127th IOC Session in Kuala Lumpur 25 July 2015.
