(SFC) President Yang Ho Cho, head of the PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG), met personally Sunday with Gunilla Lindberg, Chair of the IOC Coordination Commission, Gilbert Felli, IOC Olympic Games Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director Christophe Dubi. During the Nanjing Youth Olympics this was the perfect opportunity for Cho to meet with a top level team from POCOG since he took office to discuss the future of the Games with the IOC.

The topics for discussion included several pending issues and some upcoming projects. Cho has also made it clear that bringing on domestic and international sponsors is a priority for him.

Cho said, “The meeting was a good opportunity to discuss the progress of Games preparation as well as review key issues of importance.

“We have a long road ahead, but I am committed to the success of the Olympic Games in PyeongChang and will work closely with the IOC to ensure success.”

“We had a very positive meeting with President Cho and welcome him back as the leader of the PyeongChang 2018 Games,” added Gunilla Lindberg. “We were able to see during our discussions that he realizes the scope of the task that lies ahead of him and that he is ready for the challenge.

“We underlined to him that the IOC will continue to fully support the preparations for successful Olympic Games in PyeongChang in 2018 but that much work remains to be done.

“We have full confidence that the Republic of Korea and PyeongChang 2018 under President Cho’s leadership will deliver on the commitments made in Durban in 2011,” she concluded.

While in Nanjing, Cho also attended the opening ceremony of the Youth Olympic Games, and the PyeongChang 2018 delegation, including Vice President and Secretary-General Kwak Young-jin and Lee Byung-nam, Director-General of Games Coordination and Planning, made a special visit to the Olympic Village to cheer and inspire the Korean athletes.
