(SFC) The Nanjing Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee released the first photos of the second Summer Youth Olympic Games Friday.

The International Olympic Committee’s Medal Design Competition saw more than 300 entries from around the world, but 23-year-old Slovakian Matej Čička won with the “Track of Winners” design.

Hailed as “modern, fresh, and dynamic” by the judging panel of Olympians and famous designers, Čička’s design was inspired by the landscape of Nanjing and includes the ancient city wall gate, traditional architectures, the Oinhuai River, and plum blossoms on the face of the medal.

The Organising Committee said it wanted a design “that works in harmony with Matej’s while demonstrating the simple, vivid, and youthful characteristics of the host city.”

The Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games kicks off 16 Aug. and will run through to 28 Aug.
