(SFC) The International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed to the Executive Board that a meeting is planned with The Gambia government to ease the tensions with the National Olympic Committee (NOC).

The government instructed the police to seize the headquarters building back in April and the offices are expected to be relinquished to the NOC in the upcoming days following a “clear commitment” from the Government of The Gambia.

The IOC strongly rejected this action as unacceptable interference on behalf of the government to prohibit The Gambia NOC from carrying on with its work to support the local sport system.

The NOC also contains a sports library that was set up by the UNWTO Thank You Small Library (TYSL) organization to support education.

The Government of The Gambia has accepted in principle to attend a meeting in Lausanne with the NOC in order to work towards a more fruitful relationship based on mutual respect.

The date of the meeting was not revealed however the IOC will continue to monitor this situation very closely.
