(SFC) Continuing the momentum from the second Olympic Movement Coordination Meeting last November, key stakeholders of the Olympic Movement held discussions regarding the autonomy and governance of sport at the International Olympic Committee’s headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The meeting was tabled until the third Olympic Summit, where the recommendations from Tuesday’s talks will be proposed, 19 July.

IOC Delegate Member for Autonomy, IOC Executive Board member, and Association of National Olympic Committees Senior Vice President Patrick Hickey chaired the meeting, which was attended by Office Director for the ANOC President Husain Al-Musallam, ASOIF Executive Director Andrew Ryan, International Ice Hockey Federation General Secretary Horst Lichtner, FIFA Head of Member Associations Primo Corvaro, IOC Sports Director Kit McConnell, IOC Director of NOC Relations Pere Miro, IOC Head of Institutional Relations and Governance Jerome Poivey, and IOC Head of NOC Information Services Joelle Simond.

After a reported incident at the General Meeting of the World Baseball Softball Confederation in Hammamet, Turkey, IOC President Thomas Bach assembled the taskforce to investigate claims of discrimination against the baseball/softball federation of Israel.

The participants considered constructing a network among Olympic Movement stakeholders to ease the communication of information being transferred. Individual taskforces for every investigation into conflicts related to autonomy of the Olympic Movement were also discussed.

“It is a great honour to have been appointed to this position and to chair this preparatory meeting in view of the next Olympic Summit in July,” Hickey said. “Autonomy and good governance in sport is a top priority for the IOC and IOC President Thomas Bach, who has made it a part of the Olympic Agenda 2020 process which will set a strategic road map for the Olympic Movement.”
