(SFC) The Association of International Olympic Committee Recognised International Sports Federations held its General Assembly at SportAccord Convention in Belek/Antalya, Turkey, Monday.

“We are a large sports family that is demonstrating continued growth and development,” ARISF President Raffaele Chiulli said.

Chiulli also told those from the Federations more than 1.2 billion people are involved in one of the ARISF sports worldwide. ARISF consists of 34 member Federations, including the International Federation of American Football, the World Flying Disc Federation, and the World Baseball Softball Confederation – which is the result of the merge of the International Baseball Federation and the International Softball Federation.

The ARISF Council will create a strategic and marketing plan from data collected from questionnaires distributed to the 34 ARISF member Federations.

“The data collected was significant and will assist ARISF in completing its strategic plan,” ARISF Council member Dr. Harald Vervaecke said.

Vervaecke presented the results, which shows 97-percent of ARISF member Federations organise Youth World Championships, 76-percent offer programmes to a collective 2.5-plus million athletes with disabilities and all of the ARISF member Federations conduct programmes for coaches, trainers, judges and referees.

ARISF will receive a profit share from SportAccord Convention and continue talks with the International Olympic Committee for increased yearly funding. Discussions have also been had with the Association of National Olympic Committees and the World Anti-Doping Agency.

“Present and future resources are and will be mainly allocated in supporting the development projects of our member Federations, but a new, important attention will be dedications to marketing and communications, because these are crucial keys for the growth of our organisation,” ARISF Secretary General Riccardo Fraccari said. “I am confident that the budget approved today will be soon revised because of the new resources that will become available.”

SportAccord President Marius Vizer, International Olympic Committee Sport Director Kit McConnell and World Anti-Doping Agency Regional Director Frederic Donze confirmed their organisations’ interess in cooperating with ARISF.

The first ARISF-WADA Anti-Doping Coaching/Training Session will be held 10 April. ARISF also opened its first booth at SportAccord Convention 8 April.
