(SFC) Canadian Olympic Committee President Marcel Aubut will attend the 2014 SportAccord Convention in Belek, Turkey, to promote Canada as a destination for international sporting events, the Canadian Olympic Committee announced Monday.

The 12th-annual SportAccord Convention will bring together more than 2,500 of the world’s sport leaders to Bentek/Antalya’s Susesi Convention Centre 6-11 April. Quebec City hosted the 2012 edition of SportAccord Convention to help showcase Canada as a country capable of hosting international sporting events.

“No matter the sixe of the competition, Canada is an exciting, capable and friendly host to international sporting events,” Aubut said. “Together with our valued partners at the Canadian Paralympic Committee and the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance, we are eager to welcome any and all international sporting events to our shores and I will be sharing that message proudly to every sport leader I meet and speak to at SportAccord Convention in Turkey.”

Aubut will also host a Team Canada reception for International Olympic Committee members, National Olympic Committee representatives and International Federation delegates 9 April.

“The more international events that we host here in Canada, the better it is for our athletes and fans,” Canadian Olympic Committee Athletes’ Commission Chairman Adam van Koeverden said. “Competing in international competitions on home turf also helps strengthen our sport legacy and infrastructure. TORONTO 2015 is already contributing to progress for our summer sports athletes and I think these Games will be a game-changer for our country.”

The sports leaders will have the opportunity to build relationships, expand horizons and broaden sport’s collective endeavours at SportAccord Convention.
