(SFC) During International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach’s visit to Kuwait for the Association of National Olympic Committees Executive Council Meeting Sunday, ANOC and the Presidents of the International Olympic Committee fortified their cooperation on the Olympic Agenda 2020 at a joint press conference.

Bach’s visit – the first time he has been to the region since his election – comes one day after the first meetings of the nine new ANOC Commissions and Working Groups, created to strengthen ANOC’s ongoing process of reform following the IOC’s request for Olympic Movement stakeholders to self-analyse and –evaluate.

“It is a great pleasure to be here in Kuwait with out IOC delegation on the occasion of so many meetings taking place,” Bach said. “This gives us the opportunity to continue the dialogue with the stakeholders of the Olympic Movement to contribute to Olympic Agenda 2020.

“There are many representatives of the National Olympic Committees here, many IOC members and International Federation presidents, and I am sure we will get a great input from all the stakeholders as we enter into a new phase of dialogue.

“This is an important step in the procedure and that is why we are looking forward to these meetings. We are very grateful to ANOC, the OCA and their president, [Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al-Sabah], for their great hospitality and the facilitation of these meetings. I wish Sheikh Ahmad all the best in delivering results for the benefit of the entire Olympic Movement. ANOC can make a real contribution to promoting Olympic Values and Olympic sport in different ways and I am sure we will cooperate very closely on this.”

“It is a big honour for us to welcome the president of the International Olympic Committee here to Kuwait,” Sheikh Ahmad said. “This is a historic moment for ANOC: we have specialized and strategic Commissions and Working Groups meeting for the first time in our 31 years, with the blessing of President Bach.

“I am very proud – as an IOC member, as ANOC President and as OCA President – that President Bach has bravely put a lot of big issues on the table. We have lots to do, and we are working in very close collaboration with the IOC. ANOC has opened all corridors to support the NOCs in sharing their opinions with the IOC. As President Bach said in Sochi, it gives us a great opportunity to maintain open dialogue throughout the Olympic Movement and uphold our main ideals, as well as develop the strong relationships we need to continue our growth and evolution.”
