(SFC) PyeongChang 2018 Organising Committee President Kim Jin-sun received the Olympic torch of the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games Torch Relay Wednesday, four years before the South Korean city will host the next Olympic Winter Games and the first in Asia in 20 years.
“This was a memorable legacy moment for me,” Kim said. “The successful hosting of the Sochi Olympic Winter Games will have significant influence and provide great inspiration for the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games. The scope and depth of the preparations carried out by the Sochi Olympic Winter Games Organising Committee will certainly contribute to the overall success of the event.
“With the thought that the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games will soon begin in just four years’ time, I will closely study and observe the operation of the Sochi Games, in order to enhance and fine tune our own preparations for PyeongChang.”
More than 14,000 runners have taken the Olympic torch through 2,900 cities in Russia since the Relay began 7 Oct. 2013. The Relay will conclude its four-month journey at the Olympic Stadium 7 Feb. at the Opening Ceremony of the 2014 Olympic Games.
